IOM currently implements interventions within the areas of emergency,
preparedness and response, disaster risk reduction, livelihoods, healthcare and psychosocial assistance, assisted voluntary
return of migrants, migration and development, resettlement and repatriation, family reunification, counter human trafficking,
assistance to vulnerable migrants.

Context:

In the framework of the emergency situation regarding the migrants, asylum seekers and refugees across Greece, IOM Athens is establishing a pool of candidates interested to join the organisation.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:
Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission, and the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator, the successful
candidate will have the following responsibilities:

  • Assess potential protective and risk factors of individuals and families facing difficulties in the camp (personal resilience, shared belief systems, social support networks, etc);
  • Development of a rapid needs assessment of the psychosocial needs of children, youth and their families;
  • Counseling the migrants and refugees who have been affected psycho-socially;
  • Accompany the families during this transition period, monitor needs and feelings and their own difficulties;
  • Conduct field observations on the migrants and refugees’ population from the camp and provide the results to the

Project Coordinator:

  • Prepare weekly reports and data and submit to relevant IOM teams;
  • Coordinate with the appropriate IOM Teams to ensure that migrants and refugees basic needs are met;
  • Identify and support migrants vulnerable to becoming victims of human trafficking and smuggling and refer them into the national protection network;
  • Undertake other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience: 

  • University degree in Psychology, Sociology or Social Work preferably a bachelor degree or higher grade from an accredited institution with at least 3 years’ experience in the field
  • Membership from the Greek Psychological Association or the Greek Association of Social Workers would be an advantage.

2. Position Title : Psychologists

Duty Station: Various locations across Greece

Context:

In the context of the emergency situation related to the migrants across Greece, IOM Athens is establishing a pool of
candidates interested to join the organisation.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  • Perform an initial triage, upon arrival of the migrants, asylum seekers and refugees in the sites and identify preexisting mental health conditions in need for follow up treatment and cases in need of immediate referral to clinical services: victims of SGBV, people who are suicidal or harmful for themselves and the others, those showing serious psychotic episodes, people with pre-existing psychological disorders in need of continuation of treatment and substance abusers, especially those in abstinence crisis.
  • Identify, and train other relevant actors in identifying people in need for immediate referral, as above.
  • Map existing national and humanitarian mental health services that are available and accessible to the sites residents, in order to organize referrals. This will include the identification of capacity gaps that should be referred to the project management and local authorities for further action.
  • Together with other agencies, develop and maintain an efficient mental referral system for refugees that require specialized medical attention.
  • Conduct regular individual and group therapies for refugees and other migrants in need, and provide referrals to psychiatrists if necessary. Avoid single-session therapies and those focussing on trauma. Avoid to start-up therapeutic processes that cannot be concluded during the stay of the person in the site. Contextualize care in the migration process of the individual client.
  • Provide induction sessions on case management for families and carers of the affected individuals.
  • Organize a weekly case management coordination meeting with all IOM team.
  • Provide weekly supervisory sessions to the psychosocial workers and social workers in the IOM teams.
  • Coordinate with relevant health authorities regarding the mental health of migrants and refugees

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • University degree in Psychology (Clinical psychology, Counselling Psychology, or similar) preferably a bachelor degree or higher grade from an accredited institution

Experience:

  • At least 3 years’ experience in clinical psychology
  • Registration or chartered membership with the Greek Psychological Association
  • Experience in emergency psychology is a distinctive advantage.
  • Knowledge of PFA, IASC guidelines for MHPSS in emergencies and health and migration administrative procedures is an advantage
  • Experience in providing training on mental health issues
  • Excellent clinical skills.
  • Capacity to develop and supervise quality control/assurance mechanisms in mental health activities.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, personal commitment, efficiency and flexibility.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Good level of computer literacy.
  • Awareness of migrants and refugee issues.
  • Ability to work under difficult conditions.

Languages: Fluency in English and Greek is required.
